The interior of Berna's Bakery and Cafe, 317 NW Gilman Blvd Suite #3 in Issaquah, WA

A Turkish restaurant near Gilman Village in Issaquah, WA

Our door is Suite #3 at 317 NW Gilman Blvd, in the Gilman neighborhood, steps from Gilman Village. Of the restaurants in Issaquah, WA, ours is the Turkish one. I start the oven early, so the day's baking is done before most people have had their first cup of coffee.

The soup that belongs to this block

The most local thing I cook is a soup. Boarding House Dill & Potato Soup is creamy potatoes with fresh dill and a hint of butter in a vegetable base, and it is our tribute to Gilman Village's former homestyle kitchen The Boarding House. Most of what I cook here is the food I grew up with in Turkey. That soup came from this address.

What else is on the table

Beyond the soup the menu runs long. Manti Plate, tiny beef dumplings under garlic yogurt and tomato sauce, finished with melted butter and sumac. House Kofte Plate and Kavurma Pilav Plate, each with Turkish rice and a house green salad. Chicken Shawarma as a plate or in a sandwich. A Mezze Platter that brings all six of our house-made appetizers to the table with house baked bread. Three salads, including Monika's Chicken Salad with walnuts and feta. And because this is a bakery before it is anything else, a case of savory pastries: simit, Veggie Borek, Ground Beef Borek, olive and mozzarella buns, and Tahini Cookies when you want something sweet next to them. Prices are all on our menu.

It is one kitchen doing two jobs. If you want a full plate we are a Turkish restaurant in Issaquah, and if you want a pastry and an hour at a table we are a cafe on Gilman Blvd.

Gluten free, vegan and vegetarian

Several things on the menu are gluten free. All of our appetizers are gluten free except for muhammara, and from the entrees the Kavurma Pilav Plate is gluten free. If you are ordering gluten free, please let us know, so we can take extra care during preparation. We also offer a variety of vegan and vegetarian options, though availability may vary daily, so ask whoever is at the counter instead of guessing.
